7. What type of food do you eat there ?

We can eat real hot dogs. (Americans only eat fake hot dogs made out of pork, chicken and even beef.) Also we eat lots of rice, pork, chicken and rice. (Joke. You can know you eat a real hot dog if your stomach growls when you are done. ;-)

11. Are there unique laws in The Philippines?

In Thailand it is legal to drive your motorcycle on the sidewalk.  In the Philippines I can't think of any unique laws, except when it comes to driving it is easy to buy your license even if you fail the test. That is not legal but it is easy they say. ;-)

Received from Brandee M.

15.  I am planning to go to the mission field after I finish college.  I believe God is calling me to work with children overseas.  I'm not sure, however, what type of classes would be useful for me to take now to prepare, or what type of requirements I would have to meet.   I would appreciate any advice you could give me.  Thank you for your time.

Well, Brandee, here is at least a short list of classes I would advise you to take to help equip you for children's ministries overseas.  (Not inclusive)

  • Cross Cultural Communications
  • Computer basics
  • Creative writing-Basic music classes, guitar or keyboard -Puppeting, etc. C.E. classes
  • Acting and drama

Feel free to write anytime.
In the King's tender harvest,
Darrell

We only have two seasons. Hot & rainy. That weather can happen at any time.

17. What do you usually eat for breakfast?

Usually it would be rice & eggs. Or often I drive our youngest son David to school...(he's 15)...and then I may stop by McDonalds, they finally got here.   I can have two pancakes and hash browns and an orange juice at Mc for less than $1!?

18. What do you enjoy most about living in your country?

I like the clean air, ocean view, I can see the ocean every day and I can also see the Philippines tallest mountain. Mt. Appo.  It is a dormant volcano. Some of the mountains in the Philippines are dangerous active volcanoes. Like mount Myown which erupts at least every 10 years. The people and children are neat here to. They are fun to lead to Jesus.

What do you like least about living in your country?

The cockroaches, termites and dangerous cobras, which are frequently found in unsuspecting spots.

19. What's your favorite game?  snack?  book?

A fun game my sons and I like is Rook, and StarCraft.  I like Cheetos, and we like Oreos, and especially Rice Krispy bars but are hard to come by.  Books we like.  Both fun reading and even sometimes westerns, and Sci-Fi.

20. How does your family go about telling the people in your country about the good news of Jesus?

Our family has the Family Circus. We use a Circus truck with a built in stage and PA system to go out on the streets, to the schools, slums, smoky mountain dump sites, schools and churches to tell the kids about Jesus.

And how do you help?

I am Uncle Darrell. I write the stories and lessons that we use to teach on the streets. Now churches in 30+ countries are using the 5 books (manuals) we have written for children's lessons.

21. We'd like to pray for you.  What can we pray about?

Pray that God would help us to find more and more fun ways to teach kids about Jesus. And that he will help us to encourage other churches to not only teach about Jesus in the church but to also reach out to the un-churched kids.

You can also pray that we will be protected from the cobras, vipers, rabid dogs, guerrilla's and war that is ongoing on our island. Good health is also a prayer. Also pray that we will have extra money to feed the hungry children of the streets. That is something that goes good when we teach them about Jesus.

Family Circus Children’s Ministry was created by Assembly of God Church missionaries Darrell and Sandy Blatchley in 1993 to produce high impact and joyful methods of presenting the Gospel (#1) to children and (#2) to their families.

The purpose of the Family Circus is to bring the life and joy of Jesus, combining both discipleship and evangelism, to reach lost children, while ministering to the needs of the child, both spiritual and physical.

Each week five to six thousand people of all ages attend the Family Circus church services held under the ‘Big Top’, a big circus tent pitched in the center of the densely populated “Muslim Friendship Village in Davao City, Mindanao City, PHILIPPINES. Approximately 4,000 of the 6,000 member congregation are children- half of which are malnourished.  More than 1,000 are adults.

Please pray for Darrell & Sandy, and the team. God grant them sufficient:

  • Strength,
  • Energy,
  • Wisdom,
  • Knowledge,
  • Discernment,
  • Peace, and
  • Joy - unspeakable and full of Glory!!

Pray for food - spiritual and physical - sufficient to help with the needs of those attending Family Circus.

Pray for supplies, building materials, permits, etc. for current and future needs of Family Circus.

Pray for health and safety for all those involved in the Family Circus mission outreach.
